Burmese Academy Awards

 

The Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards are film awards given annually in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar presented to the biggest achievers in Burmese cinema. The awards ceremony has been held annually since.

The Myanmar Motion Picture Museum was established in November 1998 in Yangon to display the efforts of successful film directors, actors, actresses and producers in the motion picture history of the country.

To 2007, prominent actor U Nyunt Win has won the most awards with seven awards since he won his first in 1968. His seventh was won in 2004 for his performance in the film "Mystery of Snow" which was directed by Sin Yaw Mg Mg.

Burmese film maker Kyi Soe Tun has also been highly successful winning Best Director in 1989 for "Doe", 1997 for "Thue Kyun Ma Khan Pye" and 2002 for "San yae".

In 2004 each winner was presented with a golden statue and a Kyat100,000 prize donated by Super Coffee Mix.

In 1994 the number of awards given rose to 11 and was increased to 14 in 2002.
