Myanma Airways
is the national airline of Myanmar. It operates scheduled
services to all major domestic destinations. It's main base is
located at Yangon International Airport. The airline was
founded by the government after independence in 1948 as Union
of Burma Airways. It initially operated domestic services
and international services were added in 1950. The name was
changed to Burma Airways in December 1972, and to
Myanma Airways on April 1 1989 following the renaming of the
country from Burma to Myanmar. International services were
transferred to Myanmar Airways International, set up in
1993. |

Yangon Airways
is an airline based in Myanmar, offering regularly scheduled and
chartered domestic services from Yangon and other cities.
Yangon Airways was established in 1996 as a joint venture
between Myanma Airways and the Krong-Sombat Company of Thailand.
In 1997, the MHE-Mayflower Company acquired the Krong-Sombat
shares. |

Air Bagan
is based in Yangon, Myanmar and operates domestic scheduled
services to 15 towns and cities, as well as to Thailand. The
airline was established in June 2004 and started operations on
15 November 2004. It is owned by Myanma Airways and Htoo trading
and has approx 250 employees (March 2007). Its first
international service was flown from Yangon to Bangkok on 15 May
2007, and the second to Singapore from 7 September 2007. In
June 2006, it received permission to fly to China and Bangkok,
Thailand. In October 2006, the company announced that it would
commence flights to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Air Bagan had added two
A310-200 to launch international flights to Bangkok, Singapore,
Osaka, Seoul, Chennai and Kunming during 2007. |

Air Mandalay
is based in Yangon, Myanmar and operates domestic scheduled
services to 9 towns and cities, as well as to Thailand. The
airline was established on 6 October 1994 and started operations
on 18 October 1994 with a flight from Yangon to Mandalay. It was
the first domestic and regional joint venture airline in
Myanmar.
It was established as a joint venture between Air Mandalay
Holdings Singapore (51%) and Myanma Airways. On 27 August 1995,
Air Mandalay started its first International service from Yangon
to Chiang Mai in Thailand. |
